CommodityPoint has historically undertaken assessments of market size for Energy Trading & Risk Management (ETRM) Software on a two year cycle.
The last two studies of this kind were published for European ETRM market size in October 2007 and for North American ETRM market size in August 2009. For the first time, CommodityPoint has extended the scope of its market sizing studies to include all commodities in order to present an analysis of the market size for Commodity Trading & Risk Management software. This type of market sizing data is critical for this industry as it is used by investors, software firms, consulting organizations and others to support investment decisions and guide the allocation of resources (both capital and human).
Unfortunately, establishing a definitive size for any market is difficult exercise, and is impossible to complete with absolute certainty. Market sizing, being a forward looking exercise, must be based upon numerous factors, including overall economic conditions, forces encouraging new market entrants, historical buying patterns of existing market participants, technology drivers encouraging new purchases, and the number and capabilities of the product vendors available to meet the needs of the market.
Despite these difficulties, we believe that our organization's unique position in the market, that of researchers and analysts focused on the intersection of technology and the commodity trading and risk management markets, provides us the insights and data that allow us to provide a reasonable, independent and reliable assessment of the global market for CTRM products.
