Lysaker, 3 February 2012
Cleared volumes for UK power futures and N2EX reached a new record this week, with 3.6 TWh being cleared across all markets. NASDAQ OMX cleared 840 GWh of UK power futures alone during the past five trading days. The achievement is being put down to an increase in membership and willingness to trade financial contracts using the N2EX auction index.
At the same time the physical markets at N2EX recorded a new daily record with over 1 TWh transacted on Friday 3 February across OTR and auction platforms.
“We are witnessing dramatic progress with N2EX power products and are naturally delighted to start the year with new record volumes,” commented Geir Reigstad, Head of NASDAQ OMX Commodities Europe.
UK power volumes during January 2012 at NASDAQ OMX and N2EX were as follows:
• NASDAQ OMX UK power futures: 1,501 GWh
• N2EX total: 8,717 GWh
• N2EX Auction: 5.6 TWh
• N2EX OTR: 3.1 TWh
• Total cleared volume in January for the N2EX and UK power futures amounted to 10.2 TWh.
