Transparency in Energy Markets meets with excellent response

London, 20 May 2010

Successful record of the platform six months after its establishment – High degree of coverage – Reporting companies and access to the platform are increasingly considerably – Further reporting companies will join the platform soon – Reporting of values for solar energy currently under preparation. The central transparency platform for generation and consumption data (www.transparency.eex.com) established by the European Energy Exchange (EEX) and the four German transmission system operators - Amprion GmbH, EnBW Transportnetze AG, transpower stromübertragungs GmbH and 50Hertz Transmission GmbH - in the framework of their commitment for more transparency in European energy trading has already established a good position for itself during the first six months since its inception. The aim of strengthening the confidence which the public and the market participants place in the market by ensuring the comprehensibility of pricing obviously meets with an excellent response.

For example, the number of the companies reporting on the platform has increased from initially eight companies to a total of thirteen today. A further 14 companies have begun preparations for reporting. They have either been provided with detailed information or are about to conclude the contract regarding the provision of data. Moreover, data on the actual and expected generation of solar energy is to be published soon.

During the first six months since the establishment of the new platform the degree of coverage of the statutory publication requirements has increased from 74.8 % initially, which was already high, to almost 76 % now. With approx. 2,800 different visitors per month the number of visitors to the platform has levelled out at a high level. All companies which are not yet reporting are invited to take part in reporting on the platform and to increase the degree of coverage even further in this way.

TIWAG – Tiroler Wasserkraft AG in Innsbruck became the first Austrian company to participate in the transparency platform in the field of “voluntary reporting“. “We see this step as an excellent opportunity to strengthen the confidence which the public and our customers place in our work”, Edgar Röck, head of energy trading at TIWAG, emphasises.

The new platform for “Transparency in Energy Markets“ implements the statutory publication requirements in the field of generation and, thus, connects this data with the existing voluntary commitment of the power plant operators for the first time.
