LME Ring record trading

London, 19 October 2011

The London Metal Exchange ( LME) saw record volumes transacted on the Ring on Friday 14 October. A total of 76,146 lots were traded, the highest volume the Exchange has seen since records began. The previous record was 19 April 2004, when 67,138 lots traded.

“This is a reflection of the continued importance of Ring trading and its place at the heart of price discovery for the world’s metal industry,” commented Peter Childs, Head of Price Discovery at the LME.

The LME experienced record volumes in September, with 13.97 million lots traded, up 45% from the corresponding month in 2010. Average daily volume is up 21% from 2010 with 573,500 lots trading per day. Up to the end of September, 107 million lots have traded in 2011, which is up 22% from the corresponding period last year (88 million lots).
