The maiden interim results presentation of Glencore will have disappointed media conspiracy theorists suspicious of the Swiss-based commodities business during its spring float. The executives sat in a row, droning on about such mining hot spots as Katanga and Mopani, just like other natural resources bosses. None of them wore fedoras or mirrored shades. And there was not a whiff of a dastardly scheme to corner the world market in zinc or soap powder.
