Globally, the demand for a wide range of rare metals is roaring. Applications such as LCD’s, LEDs and semi-conductors require for example gallium and indium, while solar photovoltaic and wind power also require rare metals. Here we investigated the demand and supply issues for the renewable energy sector.
We should focus on technologies that make use of abundant materials, increase material efficiency and improve recycling. Only if we start doing this, will large-scale deployment of renewable energy be possible.
