The S&P GSCI Index increased 9.40% in December, yielding a 2010 cumulative total return of 9.03% on a spot price change of +20.44%. In 2010, the S&P GSCI Precious Metals and Agriculture Indices were the leading sector indices with YTD gains of 34.5% and 34.2%, respectively.
The S&P GSCI Energy Index increased 8.20% in December and 1.91% in 2010. For the second month in a row, the S&P GSCI Unleaded Gas Index outperformed other S&P GSCI Energy Index subsectors, increasing 11.46% in December.The S&P GSCI Agriculture Index jumped 15.88% in December, increasing 34.19% in 2010. Strength was widespread in December and throughout the year was led by the Softs. The largest single constituent weight in the S&P GSCI Agriculture Index is corn and the S&P GSCI Corn Index increased 30.68% in 2010 on the back of a 15.64% gain in December.
