American commodities broker becomes London’s best dressed banker

London, late in the day ...

London, New York, Paris, Munich, everyone's talking about ... Greg Rellis. It’s official! An American commodities broker with OTC Europe, is London’s best dressed banker. The Best Dressed Banker competition, instigated by bespoke Savile Row tailors Cad and the Dandy, attracted 50 nominees and over 20,000 votes throughout September.

“London has led the world in terms of formal style for many years. We wanted to see what makes up London style in current times,” said James Sleater, co-founder of Cad and the Dandy. “We found that it is made up of an interesting mix with American’s seemingly adopting British style more readily than the Brits"

Greg Rellis, and his nominee, will now both be the recipients of two bespoke, hand-made Cad and the Dandy suits and shirts.

Mr Rellis named Cary Grant as his style guru. “I have always admired his films, his style and the man himself. I prefer to wear a navy double breasted pinstripe suit, double cuffed white shirt and solid tie. Style is very different from fashion for me and once I find something that works, I generally keep it,” he said.

Cad and the Dandy was founded in 2008 by James Sleater and Ian Meiers who had both previously worked in banking. They have established shops in the City, Canary Wharf and Savile Row and are widely considered the new guys on the bespoke tailoring block.

The top five candidates for the Best Dressed Banker were asked to supply photos and answer some questions by a final judging panel of James Sleater, Ian Meiers, Geoff Wheeler (of fabric merchants from Dugdale Brothers) and world champion boxer turned designer Chritth Eubank.

The early pacesetter in the poll Florent Gerard, Director of Bank of America, finished in third place and the judges propelled Michelle Flynn, of Sapient, into second place.

Phillipe Guyot (the man who made James Sleater redundant from BNP Paribas) finished in fourth place. Bob ‘Dapper’ Diamond, Chief Executive of Barclays, ended in sixth place.

“We had a handful of tongue-in-cheek nominations for the tee-shirt and chino wearing City traders,” said Mr Sleater. “We will be organising a Cad and the Dandy ‘Worst Dressed Banker’ in the near future.”

Greg is undecided as to whether or not to put his name forward.

Cad and the Dandy offers high-end, bespoke machine and hand-stitched tailoring at a competitive price. The company is growing fast and will turn over £1.3m in 2010.

Ends --

Greg will be invited to make a guest appearance at this year's Commodity Business Awards taking place at Glaziers Hall on the 24th November.
