Nomura strengthens natural resources team

Nomura, the global investment bank, continues to strengthen its Investment Banking expansion with the appointment of five Managing Directors in the Natural Resources team based in the Americas. The hires include Michael B. Hill, James DeNaut and Thomas K. Barber from Deutsche Bank, Lori Lancaster from Goldman Sachs and Thomas R. Rosén from Barclays Capital.  Their collective mandate is to grow Nomura's already strong franchise and to build client-focused, intelligent, solutions-driven capabilities for clients in the Americas.

Nomura is committed to strategically broadening its Americas Investment Banking client coverage to harness the power and depth of its international resources and deliver them to clients. To achieve this Nomura has started a significant hiring program in Investment Banking which follows Nomura's rapid organic expansion over the past two years in Fixed Income and Equities in the US & Canada.

William Vereker, Joint Head of Global Investment Banking said "Our objective is straightforward: deliver superior performance for our Natural Resources clients across the globe."

Commenting on the hires Glenn H. Schiffman, Head of Investment Banking, Americas said "It speaks volumes that a team of this caliber wants to join Nomura's concerted effort to strategically expand our investment banking business."

* Nomura has hired James DeNaut and Michael B. Hill to join as Managing Directors and Global Co-Heads of Natural Resources and Power, partnering with Shaun Treacy, Global Co-Head of Natural Resources and Power. Mr. Hill was most recently Co-Head of Global Natural Resources at Deutsche Bank and Mr. DeNaut was Head of Global Banking Americas at Deutsche Bank.

* Thomas K. Barber also joins as a Managing Director. He was most recently Chairman and CEO of Deutsche Bank Canada. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank in 2005, Mr. Barber worked at Credit Suisse First Boston, where he was Chairman and CEO of CSFB Canada as well as Managing Director and Head of CSFB's Global Metals and Mining Group for nine years. Mr. Barber previously spent 15 years at Morgan Stanley.

* Lori Lancaster joins as Managing Director focused on Oil and Gas clients for the Americas. Ms. Lancaster joins from Goldman Sachs' Energy and Power Group. She joined Goldman in July 1999 and became a Managing Director in 2005. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, she worked at J.P. Morgan.
 
* Thomas R. Rosén joins as Managing Director focused on Power and Utilities clients for the Americas. Mr. Rosén was recently Managing Director, Head of Power and Energy M&A at Barclays Capital. Prior to this he worked for 8 years at Bank of America as Head of Power and Energy M&A. Mr. Rosén is also an active member of President Obama's Green Bank coalition.
 
In addition Nomura has hired Jason Martinez from Deutsche Bank as an Executive Director to drive operations out of Houston. Mr. Martinez has a specific focus in the Oil and Gas sector.
 
To support the client team, Nomura has also hired Eric Withrow, Alvaro Cunto, Eitan Szlak, David Pietruszka, Rajat Sehgal, Ilana Seid, Kanishka Kelshikar, Monika Bansal, Tyler Raugh, Colin Frankenfield, William Hayes, Ben Shapiro, Jeff Tang and Ryan Zboril into the Natural Resources group.
