It’s the simplistic approach that’s wrong
Over the past 20 years commodity investments have grown enormously. From an obscure and highly specialist asset class, commodities have become mainstream and have attracted investments from institutional and retail investors alike. As a result, commodities are now recognised as an asset class in their own right with investors valuing them as a useful diversifier, producing returns that are typically uncorrelated with other asset classes as well as a potential hedge against unexpected inflation.
