EDF Trading registers first Chinese solar CDM project

London, 10 February 2011

EDF Trading, a wholly-owned subsidiary of EDF S.A., has registered China’s first solar power generation project under the Clean Development Mechanism ( CDM).  The project was executed through EDF Trading’s subsidiary, Energy Systems International.

The Kunming Shillin Grid-connected Solar Power Generation Project, registered on 5 January 2011, is a 100MW photovoltaic power plant developed by Huaneng, one of the five major state-owned power companies in China.  The project is located in China’s southern Yunnan province.

The first phase of the project, consisting of 10 sets of 1MW photovoltaic panels, is already in operation.  Delivery of the first CERs from this project is expected next year.

“This is a significant development in the Chinese CDM market and we are honoured to be partnering with Huaneng”, said John Rittenhouse, Chief Executive of EDF Trading.

“Solar power presents attractive opportunities for project developers in China and is strongly supported by the Chinese authorities”, said François Joubert, Global Head of Environmental Products.   “We are delighted to be involved in the first solar CDM project for this region”, he continued.
