Markit and The Climate Registry to cooperate on benchmarking data

New York, 19 August 2010

Markit, a leading provider of financial information services, and The Climate Registry, a leading voluntary carbon footprint registry in North America, today announced a collaboration that will help The Climate Registry’s members and Markit Eco users benchmark and improve their emissions and energy efficiency performance.

The greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data reported by The Climate Registry members will be incorporated into Markit Eco, a web-based platform that helps public and private sector organizations track, benchmark, offset, manage and report their emissions.  The Climate Registry will also contribute its Climate Registered Members’ best practices in carbon management and cross-sector case studies on energy efficiency to Markit Eco.  Climate Registry Members will have the opportunity to join Markit Eco and access its complete set of resources in GHG management.

Marina Goche, Head of Markit Eco, said: “Organizations who invest in collaboration and educational tools for their enterprise to actively measure and manage emissions benefit from reducing operational costs, increasing efficiency and building their brand equity.  With the addition of The Climate Registry’s emissions data and emissions reduction guidance, the Markit Eco platform will better assist organisations to benchmark their emissions exposure and learn from successful emissions reduction initiatives.”

Diane Wittenberg, Executive Director of The Climate Registry, said: “Accessing GHG emissions data from almost 440 organizations across North America from a diverse range of sectors can only help organizations trying to build a competitive position in an increasingly low carbon marketplace.  Our cooperative agreement with Markit helps create an industry leading end to end solution for carbon management.  Through this partnership, organizations can define their emissions management program and access tools to implement their particular emissions management strategy, then go the next step to become Climate Registered.”

Markit Eco provides guidance, tools and services to inventory, offset, manage and report GHG emissions, including a global, cross sector benchmarking module with emission profiles on over 2,900 companies.
