Tokyo Commodity Exchange, Inc. April 2010 Rubber futures contract temporarily hit 412.1 yen/kilogram during today’s session. This is a new high of the nearest contract month, breaking the 30-year record of 386.8 yen/kilogram set in February 13, 1980, when the contract reached its highest price since its listing on December 12, 1952 at the then Tokyo Rubber Exchange. The price in TOCOM Rubber market acts as the world’s benchmark for natural rubber, and is referred daily by trading companies and producers especially in south-east Asia.1. TOCOM was established in 1984 as a result of a merger between the Tokyo Textile Exchange, founded in 1951, the Tokyo Rubber Exchange and the Tokyo Gold Exchange. TOCOM was demutualized in December 2008 and went live with a new trading system based on the suite of trading and clearing platforms provided by the NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. in May 2009.
