Energy Business Awards, Asia 2007

The inaugural Energy Business Awards, Asia (EBAA) were announced this evening at the Opening Ceremony of the 23rd Asia-Pacific Petroleum Conference (APPEC) in Singapore. The awards were presented by Mr S. Iswaran, Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Singapore, and Guest-Of-Honour for the evening, on the EBAA's behalf.

Singapore Petroleum Company (SPC) collected top prize winning "Energy Company of the Year". SPC Chief Financial Officer, Mr Koh Ban Heng, remarked, "It's indeed a surprise to be given this award as SPC strives hard to hold its own against energy giants in Asia. I'm truly honoured to receive this award on behalf of the dedicated SPC team who have worked very hard, and the SPC Board, for their guidance and support over the years. Thank you too, the organisers of Energy Business Awards, my fellow industry participants, business partners and friends for this award."

The 2007 Gold & Silver Award Winners:
1. Energy Company of the Year, Asia
* Singapore Petroleum Company (Gold)
* Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) (Silver)

2. Excellence in Energy Trading & Risk Management, Asia
* SGX [SGX AsiaClear] (Gold)
* Allegro Development (Silver)

3. Excellence in Energy Broking, Asia
* GFI /Spectron (Gold)
* ICAP Energy (Silver)

4. Excellence in Environmental Markets, Asia
* Asia Carbon Group (Gold)
* Camco International (Silver)

Mr Seck Wai Kwong, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Singapore Exchange, which was named gold award winner for "Excellence in Energy Trading and Risk Management" stated, "SGX AsiaClear is honoured to receive the inaugural Energy Business Award for Excellence in Energy Trading & Risk Management, Asia. We deeply appreciate the strong support of market participants in using SGX AsiaClear which has enabled us to win this award. SGX AsiaClear is constantly working towards service excellence and meeting customers' trading and risk management needs. We look forward to continuing our good partnership with over-the-counter market participants."

Mr. Jeremy Searle, Managing Director Oil at GfI/Spectron, collected the gold award for "Excellence in Energy Broking". "We are especially pleased to be awarded this gold award for 'Excellence in Energy Broking". . Being recognized so early for our work in this dynamic marketplace plainly underscores the value and strength that GFI has added, which will only be enhanced by our recent joint venture with Spectron Group. This in turn demonstrates our ongoing investment in, and commitment to, the region," said Mr. Searle.

The Asia Carbon Group took home the gold award in the "Excellence in Environmental Markets" category. Mr. Malcolm Chew, Group MD and CFO of Asia Carbon Group said, "Asia Carbon Group is very honoured to receive this award. We are delighted and deeply grateful for this recognition of our efforts and contribution towards sustainable development and climate change mitigation through the opportunities presented by the mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol. The Asia Carbon Group shall continue to contribute and broaden our reach as we strive to excel in the global carbon market arena".

"These are the first regional awards to be conferred by Energy Business and recognise the critical contribution being made by the Asian marketplace to the global energy complex. Asia is both the world's fastest growing energy market, as well as playing a significant role in the fast growing environmental markets through the development of CDM projects," said Jeremy Wilcox of the Energy Partnership and co-founder of the Energy Business Awards.

Notes:
The EBAA is a two-stage process, comprising a nomination period followed by voting on a shortlist of five nominees in each award category.

Stage 1: This first stage was for nominations and concluded on July 2nd, 2007. Companies from throughout the Asian energy complex were invited to nominate themselves or others in any one of 4 categories of excellence.

Stage 2: The second stage [from July 2nd to August 3rd] involved voting for 1 of 5 nominations for each category drawn up by the Awards Panel. In 2007, a total of 800 votes were cast across the 4 awards categories.
